Past Fundraiser - Showing off Quilts & Prayer Shawls

Here's a trip down Memory Lane...

Working for weeks and weeks finishing projects for our first fundraiser as well as finishing quilts that would leave for
Life Alliance.

Many small pillows and ornaments found new homes.

Potholders

Tissue Covers

This wall hanging had delicate gold stitching to highlight the flowers.

These were so much fun to make.

The scripture pillows were very popular - they all sold out.

Prayer Shawls

Someone donated this quilt to us. She even had it machine quilted.

Stunning!
Great Job Ladies!

Looking Back

When this Quilting Ministry began, we were a small group of exuberant woman wanting to make quilts and make a difference for people who were faced with great sadness, grief, loneliness and everlasting pain. Many of us knew from firsthand experience. Others knew because they saw us in our pain.

The rules were simplistic as this was from a place in our hearts.

Sewing machines were in bad shape, good shape, mostly in a place of lacking quality. And the fabrics we began with were.... a hodgepodge with a bit of everything from tiny scrapes, strips, odd pieces, odd colors, caring weights and qualities.

We were grateful for anything that came our way. It was wonderful to use much of those pieces to teach how to cut, sew and become familiar with a sewing machine (which several people had never even touched.)

As the ladies confidence grew, so did their passion for quilting. Opinions and ideas blossomed as did their skills. Opportunities to stretch their skills was around every corner.

They have come into their own as a group, a place and task for everyone. Everyone doing their part to accomplish goals of the ministry with arms wide open to welcome other sewers.

Fast forward to present day the standards for excellence have only increased. Strips and rows became boring fast. The years have served to challenge each other on a personal level. The dimensions have become much more consistent. While the designs will amaze you.

Let me inject for just a moment here.

Eila was showing some of the finished quilts to a shop owner. She was astonished that these were donated quilts - they were so beautiful, detailed and done with excellence. And the fabrics chosen were quality quilting fabric.

Looking back at the early quilts which were more simplistic and gorgeous in fabric combinations as to where they are today is something I personally am so proud of each person and their part in this labor of love.

So beautiful. The ladies strive for is variety and did a fantastic job. These have all been given out to families through Life Alliance.

Done with Excellence.
